Who may attend tryouts?

Tryouts are for 8th-12th grade females that are officially registered in Fluvanna County Public Schools and meet the academic eligibility requirements. (click here)

They must have a Virginia High School League Physical (vhsl physical form) completed and turned in before coming to the gym.

What should I bring to tryouts?

  • Completed physical (if not already turned in)

  • Water bottle

  • Small snack (if desired)

What information should I know about tryouts?

  • To be early is to be on time.  Plan to arrive early to help set up and be completely ready when practice begins.

  • Cell phones are to be turned off upon entering the gym.

  • There should be no jewelry or metal clips of any kind.

  • A tryout shirt will be issued to you each day.

  • No tank tops or shirts that show your midriff area.

  • No briefs--spandex must have an inseam and cover your entire bottom.

How many girls will make the team?

10-14 girls will make each team (JV and Varsity)

No Juniors or Seniors will be on the JV Team

What should I expect at tryouts?

Expect to work--tryouts are made up of athletic ability tests, skills tests, competitive drills and competitive play.

Evaluation-- Coaches will be evaluating and ranking girls based on athletic ability, skills, attitude/effort and coachability.

How do I prepare for tryouts?

Be in shape--use the off season/preseason conditioning program.  Conditioning Program

Go to Camp--we offer a pre-season camp every year through Parks and Rec.  The Gold Medal Squared Volleyball Training System sends qualified college coaches and players to our community to teach skills and competitive play.

Play Volleyball--any opportunity you have to get your hands on a volleyball is time well spent. 

What happens if I make the team?

Pre-season practices will be every afternoon after school.  Please make sure rides are prompt.

Matches--Every member of the program is expected to be at every match (JV attend Varsity matches and Varsity attend JV matches) with the exception of the Varsity only Virginia Volleyball Showcase Tournament.

This includes ALL post-season play--please check the schedule and get all matches on your calendar.

What are my options if I don't make the team?

  1. Apply to be a team manger.  Managers get to learn a lot about volleyball , improve their organizational skills and work closely with the team and the coaches. 

  2. Play another sport for FCHS, Cross Country is in the same season.

  3. Play club ball during he off season to improve

  4. Attend camps to get ready for next season

  5. Middle school students can play in the middle school program that runs through Fluvanna County Parks & Rec.
